Problems with AVG Anti-Virus

Postby Tonyblack » Sun Aug 17, 2008 10:05 am

I've been having a frustrating morning with my AVG Anti Virus software. It went to do the regular update and I got a pop up saying "A .bin file is missing" and the update was unable to complete. The AVG stopped a Trojan yesterday and I thought there might be some connection. So after uninstalling it and reinstalling it and still getting the same message, I Googled "AVG a .bin file is missing" and came across a forum where everyone seemed to have had the same problemand all on the same day give or take a bit due to time differences.

So it seems that this is a fault at AVG and the concensus is that it should be sorted out in tomorrow's updates.

Anyone else had this problem? :?

Edit to add this from the AVG site:

"Currently the update for AVG Free v8 is corrupted... you will have to wait for AVG Technologies to address the issue with the update.

Reporting the issue again by other users here will not do any good util it is resolved.

The updates that your AVG currently have will still provide the protection it is setup to detect. In otherwords, just getting this update will not make your AVG Free ineffective and as soon as AVG Tech resolves the issue you will be able to update to the current virus definitions at that time.

So in short... please do not post to report the issue, its already known. Also please be patient until AVG Technologies can address the issue."

For anyone who had this problem - it seems to be fixed now and you can go ahead and do an update without any problems.

Hm. The past couple days I've been trying the usual update, and I noticed it was taking a lot longer than usual to get anywhere (a couple hours longer...) and I always got impatient and cancelled. Maybe that was the problem. Worked fine tonight. :)
