By the way - did you know that Rembrandt included himself in the painting? He's roughly in position number 9 where Kidby put Kirby.

I think 14 will be Dai Dickens (did I remember his name right?)

Ahh, so it's based off a Rembrandt painting? That explains a lot, I often wondered why they chose that particular cover rather than something like a scene in the novel, that would explain it.
And yes, I've actually just noticed that Findthee is carrying his cane in the picture, so it must be him

The Rembrandt painting is actually called The Night Watch (only in Dutch of course De Nachtwacht).

Here's a Wiki about the painting. :)

Didn't Terry Pratchett rename the book to 'Nightwatch' when he saw Paul Kidby's cover design for it?

I've not heard that, but you could well be right.

This is from the L Space annotation for Night Watch: :)

+ [title] Night Watch

The working title for this book was The Nature of the Beast, but this was discarded when Frances Fyfield published a book with exactly that title in the UK in late 2001.

I'm pretty sure that 23 is Snouty as he has a key hanging from his belt. 12 is possibly Fred Colon? :?

:? oh, I didn´t notice the keys...about No 12, I think he cannot be identified without doubt...but Fred is possible

PS: by the way - correct is Dickins, not Dickens

Dai Dickins is correct I think. I haven't got my copy handy at the moment. The moustache gives him away in the picture I think. :)
