Worlds Greatest Detective

Wow! The nominations are looking surprisingly well spread. I forgot to say "other than Discworld Characters" as it stands to reason Vimes (or one of the other Watch members) would most likely get the popular vote here. However, I'm not going to change it now so all Vimes nominations still count and will continue to be accepted!

Bickaxe: James Bond doesn't count for this one, but I might run a future nominations/poll for the spy & espionage genre later if anyone's interested.

mspanners: I counted your Data nomination as a Sherlock Holmes nomination since Data is not really known for being detective or part of a detective series, as such (although as a trekkie, I also liked his portrayal). Please post again if you want to me to change it to someone else.

BatrickPatrick: Gene Hunt is fine, as is Batman due to his early comic book appearance (although, like with the spy/espionage genre, I might run a seperate Superheroes 'World's Greatest' at a later date.

I have to confess, however, that there are quite a few that I've never even heard off!

BUT dear Penfold Data did become a great detective after He got Geordi La Forge to create a real counter part in the form of Professor James Moriarty.... one who was as clever as Data and not just the 19th century criminal ,therefore Data was not playing the part of Sherlock Holmes as He had to deduce the plot and not just follow set piece from the books........ if I recall Geordi nearly walked out of the Holo-Deck when He and the Dr had a bet that data could not solve a real unscripted investigation.

So He was playing Data in the style of Holmes and not Holmes the Detective......

I'll stand by Data as a great fictional detective !!

I was going to put one on at the beginning but I forgot. Likewise, I meant to close the nominations on the 31st Aug and start the actual voting 1st Sept but said 1st Oct instead. Since I do not think it fair to change the 'rules' halfway through, nominations for Sam Vimes still count and the nominations will still be accepted until Midnight 30th Sept. So anybody who still wishes to take part or change their nominations, please feel free to do so.

mspanners: I still think Data is more known and classed as a Lt. Commander of a starship rather than a detective. wicked woman: While I will accept flattery, creeping, and outright bribes, I think Dangermouse is on record as being "The Greatest Secret Agent In The World" and not a detective. As his assistant, Penfold would be in the same category, so for the same reason why I didn't accept James bond, I cannot accept my namesake. Sorry
