Best Theme Tune

Postby Penfold » Thu Jul 01, 2010 4:18 pm

Going along with best/favourite tv series or film threads, what are your favourite theme tunes of all time? Mine are;

British tv: Doctor Who (but not the current version)

American tv: X Files. Tthe music alone sends shivers down my spine.

Film: The Exorcist. I saw this film back in the early eighties and it still scares the pants of me!
The difference between fiction and reality? Fiction has to make sense.

CSI:NY (I don't watch it, but the music is genious!!) It's Baba O'Riley from The Who: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMCxuSzdGDI

And I like House MD too, only they don't play a really good part of the song, it's Teardrop by Massive Attack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muI4MHCitno

And there are a lot more, which I might post later on...

Star Trek, the original series. Brilliant.
What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!

Just noticed Penfold meant filmsoundtrack too... well, I really couldn't chose one. I probably like everything. Hans Zimmer is my fav compositor, but I like the music from Pride and Prejudice, Requiem for a Dream, LotR, Love Actually, etc, etc... I love movie soundtracks! Sometimes even more than the movie itself...

The ones I just love are:
1.Twin Peaks Theme- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oDuGN6K3VQ
2.Themes from the three CSI (but it's rather The Who's good job)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHgF1DHgfKI
3.The Sopranos Theme (Woke Up This Morning)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUT07eZoXPw
4.Mission Impossible Tv Series Theme- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k55NuWQCh78
There are a lot of others , but this 4 will be in my memory forever .

Moving back to telly...

Mighty Boosh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24ejG_4MI5A

The Wire (S1 version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1ABR4UpDSU

Snuff Box (all versions!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDkX2-eiPIM My fave is the rude park version at 3:08.

Was lucky enough to see the brilliant Matt Berry do a live version earlier in the year, accompanied by Mark Morriss of The Bluetones.

Mr Berry specializes in funked up versions of sitcom themes:

Sorry again, followed by Are You Being Served: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipoVdL2g6PY

LOVE Morricone!! We played a piece called "Moment to Morricone" with the orchestra I'm in, and it was soooo good, you just couldn't help it, you had to move along with the music and smile all the time (which was a bit difficult for those who played a wind instrument... )

I hope it's not the dutch songtext when you open it - 'cause that happened with me, don't know, why, last time I watched it there were english subtitles... never mind)
