Discworld PCCD ROM Game.

Postby Tiffany » Wed Apr 14, 2010 6:05 pm

I have the 1995 version of the Discworld PC CD disc, boxed, with instruction manual, troubleshooter the last owner printed off, plus a boot up hd disc. I haven't been able to play it since I got it. It's not compatable with my P.C. sadly.
So if anyone interested & can use it, let me know via p.m. No point me keeping it.
Best wishes,
Tiff

Obviously no one wants it! Guess no ones p.c. is compatable with these old games now.

I've got a copy of Discworld Noir that cost 50p from a charity shop. I've never been able to get it to load. It's a great shame that as PCs have got better, these games have got left behind. :(

I paid 50p for mine too, Tony, from a car boot sale. The box graphics are good though. :D

As resident computer geek, I feel I should be helping here. One at a time, please. Now, to begin, which operating system are you all running? 98/XP/Vista/7? Or Mac/Linux?

Games!

Postby bplumb » Thu Apr 22, 2010 12:20 am

Hi all,

Sorry this is my first post (and pretty lame it is too - I intend on writing in the DW thread about how I discovered DW novels etc but just not had the time yet!) I found my old Discworld games and have a new Windows 7 laptop and can play them all....really simple too...

Go to http://www.scummvm.org/downloads/ and download the program - it essentially acts like Dos without being dos meaning old games will work fine. I am currently reliving my past playing DW2, soon to be followed by Day of the Tentacle! ;)

(PS. In Options, set Graphics to fullscreen!)
Best,

B

Choose your operating system (probably Windows, the top one). Never used Scumm though so can't help

I don't know if the gaem runs wit DosBox
It works the same way probably. All you have to do is drag the application onto the DosBox icon and it should run.

Have downloaded it, will let you know if the game works. When I get around to trying to play it.
Thanks to you both.

No worries at all Tiffany. I was becoming really disillusioned by not being able to play Discworld even though I had the CDs in my hand...newer versions of Windows simply don't like old dos games!

I tried a few different ways to get it to work (including playing around with the BAT file and configurations) but using ScummVM is by far the best. The sound sometimes is a little juttery - certainly doesn't detract from the game though - and other than that, runs perfectly!

Let us know if you struggle with it. (and thanks for the warm welcome to the forum!)

I must have done something wrong because it doesn't seem to have downloaded Scumm. I'll try again later.

Bug'rit! The perils of offering to help with something just before a 48 hour journey... But yeah, I've heard of ScummVM, although I believe it was designed for the old Lucasarts games (Curse of Monkey Island, etc). DosBox is more technical, but you can play all sorts of older games on it too 8)

With any luck, I've restored my reputation.
