I've put a couple of bids in but have been out-bided twice within seconds of biding
so I'm throwing in the towel

You managed to push it up to the grand total of £1.64.
The reason you were outbid straight away is whoevers bid stands has a max bid entered so there bid will be pushed up until someone go's higher than the maximum.

I know I didn't think I would win with the minuscule amount I bided I just wanted to see how far I could push my luck

I have the successful bid at the moment so I could tell you how high you'd have to push it :D
