To answer your question, yes, that's the Orion Nebula, the nearest region of active star formation to us. Our solar system would have been born in a similar cloud about 4.6 billion years ago.
I'm not 100% convinced the couple are sleeping, looks more like a state of despair to me - probably at being pestered by a photographer. Have you been following them around?
