I have a feeling he's said Vimes as well, but can't remember where or when. He has certainly got a good deal of Vimes's cynicism. I remember at an event, someone coming up to him while he was sitting quietly in a corner with his laptop. They asked him if they could have a chat with him. He stopped what he was doing, looked at the person and said - "certainly, if you are prepared to make me stop writing the next book." That person went very red and left him to it.

He's said in several interviews now that Vimes (and Tiffany too) 'writes himself' meaning he doesn't have to think too much about what he's going to say or do in any given situation because he's become real in his (Terry's) head.

When you're great at writing characters it's a real goosebump moment (even a bit scary at first) when you realise you're not even consciously thinking about what they're going to do or say - they just take on a life of their own and you're looking over their shoulder recording what they're going to do next

I agree with Jan. One of my 'boys' is a Tale-Teller and there I was with him happily escorting his Lord and then I discover he and a lady friend had a baby which died. I never knew that! Sometimes it is VERY odd when the characters write themselves! I now run with it as it can really kick some life into the story when your character surprises you.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows of companies that purchase clarecraft figurines of disc world, I built up a large collection but now need the space, I don't really want to go down the eBay route. If not then I might use a local auction house
Cheers

Frankly the best bet is Ebay, auction houses will take 20% of the money and Clarecraft sells for very good money on Ebay so it's the best market for it

Hi there, I'm Dodd,
Just started wading through the Discworld series - played some games and listened to some Audiobooks when I was younger but just dug out The first three books, The Discworld Companion and Monstrous Regiment (the book I remember the most) from the back of the wardrobe and thought I'd hop on here to maybe strike up some conversation as I read. Hope that's cool! Thanks :)
