No, you're probably right. We are getting a LOT of spammers registering at the moment, but they are unable to post until their account is manually activated. Jason and I are keeping an eye on them and deleting the obvious ones.

At least we aren't getting them actually posting now like they were.

Thanks for the heads-up Jinx. :)

You know I had no idea exactly how bad the spam bot problem was until now. Shows what a good job Tony and Jason are doing.

When we used to have a lot of problems with Hookton.com (the old version of the site) I used to spend time tracking some of these bots down. Sometimes if you google the user name you get literally hundreds of hits all on message board and all registered withing about half an hour.

There were some websites that had been adandoned by humans and were just packed full of spambots posting their nonsense. I came across one spambot that would post something fairly innocent and then another that was set to reply to it a few days later - and this was all over the place.

One day I even stumbled on spambots selling a program you can get to run spambots and from there I traced it to spambot central.

There were all these idiots on there comparing the best spamming software and posting ads to it. You'd swear the ads were for something highly useful.

Very strange people indeed.

The Tech guys have installed a modification to the board that requires more authentication when registering accounts - this should hopefully reduce the amount of spammers we get signing up.

Let's hope so! :D

You deserve a well earned rest Jason. Although I doubt if you'll be getting much of that in the near future.

The CA forum had a lot of probs with spammers. Tom has done loads of technical things* to try and avoid it but the buggers still manage to slip past them eventually.

*I have absolutely no idea what though.
