Wanted - feet

Postby hnorwood » Fri Feb 14, 2014 2:52 pm

A number of people, when looking at my layout, have asked where are the elephants?
So- I'm thinking that it might be nice if I could have three dummy elephants' feet to sit the front 3 legs of the layout support in.
Can anyone point me in the direction of someone who might be able to help me realise this?
They would not have to be full size, of course and only about 6 inches high as the layout has a "skirt" at the front that ends about 5-6 inches from the floor.

(Come to think of it, perhaps a full set - 6 would be in order...)

Many thanks

He said the M- word
Seriously haven't a clue as to what you mean H but I used to be a teacher with a talent for making something out of nothing so would suggest finding three plant pots of an appropriate size, a large amount of old newspaper torn up, some water-based glue/paste - use the papier mache to model the shape you want around the pots, allow to dry then paint them grey/brown with white toenails. You could do something similar with those cardboard tubes they wrap carpet around...possibly?
Need to lie down now

Thanks, Janet, that's given me some ideas, but I don't think my creative abilities stretch to that.

More details for those of you left in the dark. The layout sits on 3 pairs of metal legs (from Ikea) this photo shows two pairs assembled:

When out on the road it has a skirt around the front:

So - there's just room to see the bottom of the legs. Some exhibition-viewers, going along with the plot (as it were) have asked where the elephants are that support the "world" of the layout. So the idea is to put "boots" on the bottom of each leg, that are made up to look like elephants' feet, so I can just point to them as say "there you are!"

Have you looked at Elephants Feet chair and bed raisers for furniture? They are quite plain but would give you the basis to decorate them if you wanted to.

It will look great if you can get some elephant feet on your table! Batty, those look like the perfect solution. :D
