http://www.snowgumfilms.com/trollbridge/backers/

The originals (from 10 years ago) are in the "Wave I" backers. I'm in there somewhere :D
Kickstarter backers are "Wave II", and those who chipped in after the Kickstarter campaign are "Wave III"

Ten years? Ten years? It took a shorter time to make Hogfather and Going Postal, I'd bet!
There's a lot of fan-made films on Youtube for various fandoms. What's taking so long?
I've forgotten what the short story Troll Bridge is about; I better remember the Sea and Little Fishes.
Sorry Troll Bridge backers :-(.

They did not have Sky's money or equipment, I doubt any fan made utube effort will match Troll Bridge for film quality or content.

When Daniel first started making Troll Bridge, there was *no* Discworld live action tv/movies at all, and he wanted to be the first. They got Terry's approval, shot some of it (a prequel bit) and looked for investment from film grant bodies to get the rest. Noone was interested. By 2009, when Hogfather was being made, they knew that they'd never be the first (considering a professional company - The Mob - would manage that feat) so instead decided to make it /as good/ as a professional film, but done for a much lower budget. The existing prequel bit was scrapped and replaced with a full on 'war' prequel, and progress continued, albeit slowly (considering the "no money" factor). The main story with Cohen on the bridge *was* shot on location but it would have required a huge amount of post production to make it work. So even that footage was scrapped. In 2011 at Nullus Anxietas III, they launched the Kickstarter - for crowdfunding was only just making inroads into the public consciousness at that point - and that is where the money to make the film came from. They asked for $45000, and got $82000, which is a miniscule budget for any film in the modern era. Using that, they've shot some location scenes in New Zealand, and re-shot the main part of the story on a custom-built set in Melbourne with green screen backgrounds. It's been a long time, but they'll make it - it's in the final stages now (the post-production animation stuff) and although it seems any specified deadlines just go whooshing past, remember that /EVERYONE/ working on this project is not getting paid nor are they allowed to sell copies of the film afterwards (both part of the original agreement with Terry), so any of these film makers (directors, editors, special effects artists) who get paid work will give that work priority as it's how they can afford to eat and pay rent. Troll Bridge is a labour of love.

You might get a chance to see it - but you won't get a chance to /own/ it without backing the project.

In the mean time, Snowgum films have made about half a dozen other short films, and had a few paid gigs making advertisements or music videos. Check their website for all of these. I heartily recommend "Run Rincewind Run", "Undead Ted", and "Blood on the Game Dice".

I didn't know they wouldn't even be able to sell it when they're finished!

This is the short story:
http://home.uninet.ee/~ronin/stuhv/Terry%20Pratchett/Discworld%20Short%20Stories/Pratchett,%20Terry%20-%20Troll%20Bridge.pdf

This is a youtube clip of the finalised film:

Is it me or is the film about a much younger Cohen with hair? The short story featured a talking horse, and Cohen talking to the troll about fame. The film has a lot of battling going on. Can I enquire as to what people think the film's plot is about? Does it star a much younger Silver Horde? It looks like a generic fantasy battle sequence to me.

That trailer is the "prequel" bit I mentioned above. The footage was shot in 2008/9 before the whole Kickstarter campaign.
(I saw the "War" almost in its entirety - minus special effects - at Nullus Anxietas 2 in 2009).

The film-maker's aim is to have a short bit showing Cohen in his glory days, and then the main part of the film matches the short story. Some footage (minus special effects) are in the following two trailers which you must have missed:

Footage from New Zealand: http://youtu.be/cUEfkc64x3w (Shot in 2011)

Footage from the studio shoot: http://youtu.be/ssgBPIZrr6M (Shot in 2012)
