Tesco face scanning

"Tesco to scan shoppers' faces to target adverts"

Remember to scowl while shopping at Tesco! Wouldn't want to give them the idea that anyone likes their stuff...

My face looks scowly when I'm not talking to anyone! Tesco would do better to spend their money training their staff on how to store potatoes in the dark. Then I wouldn't have to mention to them that green potatoes are inedible, poisonous and should not be on their shelves

They aren't the only ones. The new Xbox console, the Xbox One (we call it the Xbone). was originally supposed to require an always on connection. to the point that the system would not function if you didn't connect it online once every 24 hours. and also required the use of the kinect (that motion control thing where you look like an idiot in front of a camera to make a game (or any thing on the console) do what you want).

Come to find the reason for both of these was that the kinect was always watching. and would scan your room for recognizable brands (doritos, coke, pepsi, etc) then combine that data with some basic info (number of people in the house, ages, etc) and send it off to market data researchers for targeted ads as well as to see how brands are selling and to who.

I mean, there was nothing in the data to identify specific people (outside the ads the xbox itself would show), but it was still a creepy revelation.

Shops have had camera's on us for a long time.

Why not commit to a Tiny Act of Rebellion the next time you're in a major supermarket. After reading Rich Fulcher's book of the same name I've been inspired to stick it to the man. For example, Try a bit of your own product placement, my last food shop I put a 24 pack of loo paper in front of the laxatives in the 'health' aisle. Not wholly original or very imaginative but a tiny act all the same.

I've been aware of being watched, certainly. If I've forgotten to take a list I can wander aimlessly trying to remember what it was I went for. I'd be the perfect decoy if anyone fancies a spot of shoplifting
Now THAT'S probably triggered off something or other!

Buy one of these and put it on before entering the store. ;)

She's already got one. I sent one to her a couple of years ago. Somewhere about the forum are pictures of her daughters with very, very long hair, wearing the mask.

They're quite freaky.
