A piece of trivia which caught my eye the other day is that the manned flight endurance record stands at a ridiculous 64 days, 22 hours and 19 minutes, set between 4th December 1958 and 7th February 1959. Robert Timm and John Cook - sponsored by the Hacienda hotel in Las Vegas - flew this plane:
... for more than two months, refuelling twice a day from a speeding truck.
Pretty impressive, but today I found at that data tagging has suggested that this bird, the Alpine Swift:
... can stay airborne for more than six months at a time.
Nice effort guys, but it looks like it would have been cheaper to paint a Hacienda logo on the side of the bird.
