I know that feeling. I once dropped my wide angle lens onto concrete and feared a £700 bill to replace it. Fortunately (and a good reason for not buying cheap third-party lenses), the lens is well built and escaped damage other than a few scratches on the lens cap. I'm glad yours survived as well.
I now use the wrist strap ALL THE TIME no exceptions
