My Avatar speaks for itself

"You must be Mr Boggins?"

My new signature is a quote form The Hobbit film where Gandalf first meets Bilbo
No. I don't imagine anyone west of Bree would have much interest in "adventures."

It's a phalarope. Specifically a female red-necked phalarope. NOT a duck. A pelagic shorebird (yes, I know - an oxymoron). Females are the pretty ones, practice serial polyandry, and abandon their eggs for the males to raise. Ahem....

I knew that! Well that it was a phalarope and not a duck.

The ugly mug currently leering out at you all is none other than Johnny Depp as played by Hunter S Thompson...wait, scratch that, wrong way around. Anyway, Hunter S Thompson as played by Johnny Depp in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The signature is an extract from one of Thompson's interviews.

My avatar (if you can make it out) is a small discworld cake made at NAIV (Aussie Discworld con) in 2013. We had a beautiful big cake with elephants and a turtle, and these little ones were made for the gluten/wheat free people. Its also the logo I use for the Pratchett Partisans, the Brisbane based social club I started this year.

I don't think I could eat a DW cake. They're too cute.

I re-read Fear & Loathing only a few weeks ago. It's a trip & a half isn't? I find that kind of lifestyle both fascinating & frightening. I've not seen the movie, I don't think I'd bother with it.

Only a trip and a half? It's more like one big trip that can be divided into over a dozen.

And you're right about the lifestyle. It's fascinating, frightening, amusing and outrageous.

You have to love the mock police notice that Thompson makes up in the chapter about the antidrug convention. It's done as the voiceover of a 'documentary' film in the movie. "KNOW YOUR DOPE FIEND"...

Funnily enough, Johnny Depp actually lived with Thompson for a time before filming. And Depp actually got his hair cut to match Thompson's own receding hairline. By Thompson himself. With a straight razor. While Thompson was wearing a mining helmet. :|
