Thanks for the advice all. I have a HTC Legend.

Yeah Dots I was worried about memory. For instance there is an app for google and youtube.... why would I need to take up room in my phone if I can just connect from the net for that?

I have extra memory on a card thingie but I don't seem to be able to find out how to choses if to put the app on the phone of the card.... read the online intruction manual so much my eyes are crossed. I guess I should google some forums about apps and the problems etc, but not everyone who writes on them are that clever at times I have found.

STILL trying to download my phone pics to the computer..... so many people have rolled their eyes at me (you know that lil condecending look) then struggled themselves and ended up doing a Dawn French thing and slamming the laptop shut :D :D :D

I better investigate that one too. Its frustrating me. I need to find a big enough bribe to get the teen to do it.

I will get there..... dammit I will.

No idea. Sounds worth a google though.

What I think you can do is go to your kindle on amazon and send the book to another linked device like your phone or ipad. i know I somehow I managed to get the same book on all 3 devices so I must have done something like that at some time.

ummmmmmmmmmmm..... right! :?

You know what... years ago a teen son of one of my friends made a liiving charging people $10 to go around after they had moved and set up their TV, vid player, game stations, etc. Not bad for ten minutes work.

The people in the phone shops couldn't car less once they have sold you the phone.

There is definitely a hole in the market for an entrepreneurial person to hold people hands tech wise.

Dated a guy a few years ago who charged $500 an hour to do it. But then he also installed the house systems.

I DO plug my phone into my computer and something flashes for a microsecond on the screen then disappears into the ether.

I have opened every damn file on the computer and can't find anything.

Go on to the HTC support website del, and ask a question there, and you can download your phones full manual.

Amazon Kindle

Postby amosnueva » Thu Aug 08, 2013 3:37 pm

I am completely new to ebook information. I have been reading Terry Pratchett since "The Colour of Magic" first came out. I would like my nephew to read more of Sir Pratchett and I think ebooks would be the best way. My nephew is not very careful with books and I am loath to lone him mine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to type of ebook or device to buy? Any information anyone can offer would be extremely helpful.

Hi there, amosnueva and welcome. :)

I'd be inclined to get the cheapest you can for him. The basic Kindle retails from Amazon for around £69 or $69 I believe. It seems that is the most popular and therefore may be the easiest to get books for. Even the cheapest one will connect to the Internet via Wifi so the books can be ordered directly from the Amazon store, or downloaded in Kindle format from such sites as Project Gutenberg, which has thousands of out of print classics for free. :)

Hi amosnueva, I have a kindle they are pretty good, I think someone else has a Kobo different system they use e-pub format, I not sure what format the Nook has. You can also get a free Kindle app download to read on your computer from Amazon easy to download and use .

Buy Once, Read Everywhere: You don't need to own a Kindle device to enjoy Kindle books. Download one of our free Kindle apps to start reading Kindle books on all your devices. That means with our free Kindle Reading apps, you can buy a Kindle book once, and read it on any device with the Kindle app installed. I have a Kobo, they're cheap as chips and you can download library books onto them (which you can't with a kindle). Kobo has it's own site for selling ebooks, but I don't use it often. There are a lot of really cheap Kindle ebooks on Amazon, but Discworld books aren't I'm afraid - it would be a lot cheaper to buy your nephew second hand paperbacks. Also, the cover art is part of the experience with these books, which he would miss out on with an ereader.

That's a thought - does the price of a DW Kindle book go down when the paperback comes out?

And why are Kindle books about the same price as regular books, when they (presumably) are cheaper to produce?

I'm inclined to agree with Dotsie - get used paperbacks from Amazon or somewhere. :)
