Discworld Monopoly?

Postby HobbitFeets » Fri Aug 02, 2013 8:47 am

Hi guys and gals

I do love a good boardgame especially monopoly. I was wondering what a bunch of hard core Discworld fans would have to do to get the game into production? I personally feel it would be a right hoot. Imagine the place names, the miniatures, the community chest and chance cards? Need I say more?
No. I don't imagine anyone west of Bree would have much interest in "adventures."

I'm going to hazard a guess here, and say that the Community Chest will have lots of feets!

Yeah, but it was hardly a popular topic at the time.

Maybe Chance could be changed for "The Lady".

Maybe we need to wait until Raising Steam to see if any railway stations can be added.

You don't have to provide literal analogues to real game properties. Why not use guilds instead of railway stations? Or why not use trolls and dwarves instead of houses and hotels?

Just designing the playing pieces alone would be a hoot--clubs, axes, gold hats with wings, helmets, staffs, scythes, broomsticks, dwarf bread. And the Chance and Community Chest cards could feature Vetinari instead of the little capitalist tycoon.

The Grand Trunk could be a utility, The Mint and Post Office could take the place of railroads.

A little bit tangental, but apparently Milton Bradley is coming out with a version of Monopoly with no "Jail"--apparently, the purpose is to speed up the game.

So, in other words, they've created a version of one of the best board games in history, one that encourages negotiation, thinking, strategy and money management, to make it faster for kids to get it over with so they can go back to texting, watching TV and playing videogames?

Coming up next: Chessboards that eliminate those pesky pawns and knights. New version of Scrabble with only 30 tiles so the game can be over in five minutes. New versions of Battleship that use a 5x5 grid and two ships per side. New decks of cards with only three suits.

Monopoly has always had speed rules. I don't see the need to in making a new board over it.

Monopoly was always my favorite game. but no one ever wanted to play, cause it took too long.....

It was just a thought. They've made everything else Monopoly. Unless it changes I'll have to stick to Ankh Morpork the board game, Guards Guards the Board game and GURPs Discworld.

There's enough to be getting on with
