Artemis Fowl Books to be made into Movies

Postby Bouncy Castle » Wed Jul 31, 2013 11:12 am

London Evening Standard.

Disney will attempt to recreate the movie success of Harry Potter after today announcing it is to make a film featuring Artemis Fowl.

The first two books about the 12-year-old millionaire criminal mastermind will be adapted by Walt Disney Studios and The Weinstein Company.

Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein said he was introduced to Irish author Eoin Colfer’s novels by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal, who will both be executive producers.

The screenplay is being written by Michael Goldenberg, the screenwriter of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Weinstein will be rekindling his relationship with Disney — it once owned his Miramax Films, which he left in 2005. He said: “This is special because my children absolutely love this book.”

There are eight Artemis Fowl novels.

Not sure I'm happy about it being Disney. I love these books and I'd hate them to be made all sugary and crap.

Yeah, here's hoping that they do it right.

My thought exactly.

I'm quite anxious about the casting too...

Author wants Irish actors seemingly. He really wants Saoirse Ronan in it according to all the Irish press.

Always meant to read those books and never got around to it.

Oh, they're great, Suzanne. If you get the chance you should give them a go.

And the kids might like them as well!! Not sure how old yours are, but they're written for children.

I must admit that I haven't read the last one yet, it went a bit downhill around book 5, still think it's a brilliant series though.

Only got as far as book 4 so far, very good but as Mici has warned me off the rest I may stop there especially after what Colfer did to H2G2 which turned me off his writing totally

My opinion also, book 5 is manageable but the next 3 are instantly forgettable. Page by page even.
What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!
