The babies have been hatching at Wetlands Trust and you have to be a bit careful about where you tread. I was even lying on the ground to take a pic of something or other when I was assaulted (yes assaulted!) by a family of young ducklings using their beaks to see if I had food in my hand or whether my camera was edible. (Their nibbles were quite painless and rather sweet really.) However, when I walked away I was a bit worried when they started following behind me on the off-chance that some free food might be forthcoming in the near future. Fortunately, another family of people were coming in the opposite and I managed to make my getaway while the ducklings were being distracted by the newcomers.
There are two mated adults that live on the river. They are now so used to humans walking past that they are tame enough to approach fairly safely, although dog walkers beware. Personally, I don't care for how docile they are, I don't approach them when they have young - they are still a wild animal at heart and sometimes react like one.
