Hello! I'm Gracieat5x, a midwestern American fan of all things Disc-ish but I have a very specific reason for being here now. I just discovered that my audiobook copy of The Fifth Elephant (Stephen Briggs, Vimes, Uber-Wald, werewolves, oh my!) has a diseased disc - #6, to be precise. Something has eaten the silvered surface from both the front and the back of the CD and it flatly refuses to play in either my PC or my car. Please, can anyone help me? I know if I'm in the wrong place, some kind moderator will move me. Thank you!

if it's still under it's warranty you can take it back to be replaced with a fresh new copy
other than that I'm afraid it's off to the shops to replace the lot
and welcome to the site I hope you stay after your disc problems are solved

Hi Gracie and welcome. :)

As stated, if this is a new copy then you should be able to get a replacement.

If it's an old copy that has become damaged, you might try and see if you can get a copy from your library and make a copy of the damaged disc. :shhh:

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum Gracie.

If it is an Isis audiobook then drop them an email, their quality control isn't great and they have replaced over 25 faulty discs for me over the years.
One of those? Oh I'm sure I have one somewhere..

Thank you all for the warm welcome and the advice! Unfortunately, my library doesn't own a copy of ToT (or I would totally do that - but then again, I am a lawless, godless Amurrican). I bought my copy secondhand on eBay and it was just fine when I got it but when I went to listen to it again, something acidic (?) had eaten the silvering from both sides of the disc (but without eating through it - weird). I'll check with ISIS and see if they'll replace it.

Gracie, have you tried seeing if your library can get the audiobook? I know that when I'm in Tucson, it's possible to search all the libraries in the area and order a book if it is available. :)
