That was seriously scary. I thik I will stay away from Russian roads!. Mind you, having driven on Kenyan roads, they are not much better. Used to see newspaper reports of minibusses having crashed and killed 30 people - when they were licenced for 12

The Russians drive around with dashboard cameras. After seeing this video, you'll understand why. To get the full feeling, when the video player comes up, put it in full screen mode, sit back and be glad you don’t have to drive there...

...why are none of the Governments acting?

I find this all very sinister and scary. Monsanto is too powerful for the Governments to upset.....so no-one wants to ban the widely used chemicals that they make, even though there is good science behind banning them.

It's not just pesticides either.

Over 20 years ago when I was a nipper in Forestry college, Monsanto could do no wrong. Roundup was fairly new on the market and was 'the safest herbicide' that you could use. We were told that it was 'neutralised by the soil' and so only affected the plant it sprayed and that it was far safer than any other herbicide. Roundup/glyphosate was one of the big chemicals that made Monsanto the company that they are today.

Nowadays, people are pushing to ban Glyphosate for worries over a number of health issues including causing cancer.

It's worrying that Governments don't have the balls to say to these companies that these dangerous herbicides and pesticides will be banned.

Is there any point in having life sentences, then?

People have had life sentences in Ireland and been out in around 10 years so its pretty much meaningless here.

If a person does something so horrendous that they're sentenced to life, it should MEAN life.

Kinda sucks. A guy from Limerick (where the Irish DWcon is this year) just got 4 life sentences yesterday for killing his ex , there 5 month old daughter , her son by a previous relationship and a friend of hers . The attack was so frenzied he actually had to use multiple weapons because he snapped and broke knives he started with. The sentences are set concurrently so the guy could be out in 12 years. He stabbed a 5 month old baby 20 odd times and will almost definitely be out at some point. Bloody insane.

Much is made of life prisoner's human rights but what about their victims - and not just the people they killed?

I'm actually anti capital punishment (because the law isn't infallible and you can't un-execute a mistake) but some crimes are unforgivable and life should absolutely mean life to the last nasty little drippings for those who took other lives, whether in cold blood or 'in the heat of the moment' in deliberately violent or degrading circumstances. People like Ian Brady forfeit their human rights the minute they kill so brutally. :angry-fire:
