You don't get that sort of thing with Licenced London Taxi Drivers, you know. ;)

Problem here is you can't guarantee the taxi is genuine as there is no standard car and they clone plates and roof signs.

Blimey.

I know there are problems with unlicenced minicabs over here, but the black London taxis are usually OK.

Do you not have a standardised taxi like the London ones in Ireland, or is it just minicabs?

Its all licenced and centralised but any car type can be used (within reason) they seem to forge all the stuff up in the North or in other cases one vetted and licenced driver rents his taxi to five unlicenced drivers to maximise the income.
I was in a taxi once and the driver asked if I minded if he stopped for a minute as he'd just seen a cab at a Taxi Rank with his licence number on the roof. It was fun to watch the fallout but worried me a bit as well.

The Old Bill are pretty strict over here. There's often check-points set up to make sure all vehicles are correctly licenced, and woe betide any "taxi" that isn't.

I used to often get minicabs, but would NEVER get into one if they pulled up and asked if I wanted a cab.

I got out of a couple of Taxis because the Id plate picture was of a different guy than the driver. Not worth it.
