I talked to the kids about the dog again and suggested that,as they are so keen on having a dog, I would offer to help provide the food it needs,so how about them providing the money needed for tax, insurance and vet bills by finding some small job for the weekends, like a newspaper round.I said if I could rely on them to pay the bills, beside keeping up the performance at school plus walking the dog twice a day mornings and afternoons, then I would be happy to help with the grooming and do the evening walk plus I would help buying the first assessories like basket and lead and train the dog, since they had to go to school in the mornings.
I said as it would be a family dog they couldnt expect me to shoulder the whole responsibility, seeing that they were so old already. They hadn't expected that and were a bit kerflummuxed, but then agreed and said as they would get the puppy in October, they could find a job till then.I said no,they needed to start now, because I would take only a female, who needed to be speyed (is that the right word?) and that cost 300 €,so they needed to start saving right now, during the summer holidays, and I would help with the rest of the cost.I said it was only fair.
The faces fell and they said they would think about it again.
If they really agree to this and find a job,its well worth having a lovely dog into the bargain. If they don't,they don't want the dog enough and don't deserve to be given the responsibility.
What do you think?
It´s still magic even if you know how it´s done.
