great pics, taking the tourist route to Vlad's place in the first photo then Square? Much better weather than when I was there which was mainly in a thunderstorm :roll:

Nah, I did 4months working in poiana Brasov (basically the ski resort for Brasov) but I did visit bran castle when I worked there

Hookah in Egypt and America, water pipe/shisha/hookah/hubbly bubbly pipe in uk, nargile and variant spellings turkey round to Italy, shisha in Spain and most northern Africa and I think Arabia, wasserpfifen in German I think

This is me in my early twenties (back in the mid 70's)

I'm adjusting a deep water Cerenkov detector that is looking for high energy cosmic rays. Underneath the metal surface is 7500 litres of pure water. High energy particles emit flashes of light as they pass through the water; these were picked up by a photomultiplier tube which was under the box of electronics visible in the photo.


PS my avatar image is of me piping in the Haggis at a Burns' Night supper last year. That was one of my busiest so far - 4 in one week!
