How do people get away with stuff like that in this day and age? Especially after the huge success of the Paralympics or are they now forgotten about?
If you can fill the unforgiving minute,
With sixty seconds worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a man my son.

It annoys me that the guy says that he apologised for his comments - not that he didn't mean them. :naughty:

The way I read the article, he said that the election showed that people understood that he didn't mean it. I think possibly he intended something like Jonathan Swift's famous article suggesting cannibalism as a solution for a famine in Ireland, written to get the attention of the ruling class, not intended to be taken as a serious suggestion. Similarly, in order to combat suggestions that caring for the disabled was too expensive, he sarcastically suggested the obviously unacceptable alternative.

Yes, I know the Swift satirical essay, A Modest Proposal, but I think that this guy needs to be clear and aware that in this sage things like that will be used against him by political opponents.

Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.

The rest of us are a bit crap.

In that case, it's a good thing there wasn't a foreign body up there. ;)

I wonder how much disability problems are caused not by the condition a person has but by our attitudes to them. Makes me feel ashamed.
