To This Day...

Postby Cheery » Sun May 05, 2013 10:41 am

I posted this on my DeviantArt profile and figured I'd do it here aswell. :)

"To This Day" is a project that fights against bullying in schools all around the world.

I think most of us have experienced that: Being called names, being bullied, laughed at, even beaten. It's a terrible thing, and it's a thing that imprints itself into your heart and sticks with you for the rest of your life. I've experienced it and millions of others have too.

The project is about raising awareness and helping people who've had to deal with bullying via this beautiful video, a poem by Shane Koyczan:

I really recommend it, it's such a beautifully made video and Shane Koyczan has a wonderful way with words. I literally do not know anyone who has captured the emotional part of bullying so well in words as he has. I'm not scared to admit that I've cried like a baby while watching that. I haven't seen a movie that touched me so deeply as this has for a long time.

I'm probably a bit late with that, cause it's been going on for a while now, but bah. I'm sure not everyone's seen it.

What an excellent video, Cheery. I can certainly identify with an awful lot of the stuff in there. Thanks for posting.

Very powerful, I liked the bit about the children's concept of beauty being their mum.
I consider myself lucky, in that I seem to have at a fairly young age (mid teens about the same time I was diagnosed with dyspraxia) turned the bullying on its head. My attitude became, I can think of much worse and offensive insults and I know I don't mean them so therefore how can they mean them and even if they do what harm are they? I never to my memory received any physical bullying, although I did once on a school trip to Wales find a cows horn under my pillow, so for several months after had the nickname cow horn boy. What they never knew is how the copy of viz that the previous class had been banging on about so much mysteriously ended up in the fire (we were staying in a house with no running water or electricity) best thing was that I have always been a very fast non-speed-reader and so I had read all before it somehow got mixed in with the kindling!

throughout my school life and a chunk of my collage life I was bullied but high school was the worse
I was kicked and punched on a regular basics in my kidneys when I climbed the stairs and so often in the arm whilst my TB scar was healing that my arm had got infected and oozed thick white puss. The worst of it came when they started calling me witch and I said about this before but when I was going home I pinned against a fence sprayed with perfume, hairspray whatever came to hand and then they stood back and flicked matches at me to see if I would burn.

Our school had an compulsory suspension or possible expulsion policy regarding punching somebody after the bcg jab.
On the other plus side re. my being bullied, I only ever got bullied by my classmates and if someone from another class tried to even verbally bully me my classmates would stick up for me.

not really they got more cunning about the way they did it but by this point exams started and they concentrated more on their grades and less on us
