Also a tad like their business acumen . . . sadly.

Windows 8 is just awful! I bougght a brand new PC this week and made sure it had Windows 7. I have heard that PC sales have really dropped since Windows 8 was introduced. I suspect it makes a bit more sense if you use a tablet or Smart Phone, but for every day computing it sucks! :x

Similar experience here Tony. Microsoft really blundered by doing away with the start menu, which makes Win 8 really frustrating to use for anyone familiar with earlier versions, in a perfect demonstration of how to alienate a customer base. In the end, I installed a 3rd party start menu utility (Pokki I think), which has taken most of the pain away.

In many ways it's a superior product: there are some performance improvements under the hood, and plenty of decent free apps in the store. However, the Metro interface works poorly without a touchscreen, and the old desktop is painful to use unless you can teach yourself lots of keyboard shortcuts, or install a 3rd party tool.

One thing I noticed on my friends new comp that has win 8, alot of the text, especially online, is lighter. like a light blue or grey and makes reading certain site a pain. and this is the same in IE and firefox. and check boxes are nearly impossible to see.
