If it is, and that looks highly likely having looked the plane up, well done Crys :D , then to answer the other half of the question it was used by TWA.

It certainly is! :D It even says "Northrop Aircraft Corporation" on the side of the plane in the picture.

They flew with TWA: Transcontinental & Western Air, which later became know as Trans World Airlines. I was fascinated by the Wiki which describes the service they had between San Francisco and New York that required 13 stops and took 23 hours. :)

If you've ever played the computer game, Medal Of Honor - Underground, you'll see one of these that gets sent to an airstrip in North Africa to rescue the hero at the end of a level. :D

Why did American military aircraft markings go from this:

To this, during World War 2?:

Looked too Japanese (rising sun flag) so they were shooting their own side ?

Not that I would ever suggest that the Americans went in for shooting thier own planes down

That's right! The RAF also got rid of the centre red spot from their planes fighting in South East Asia Command for the same reason.

True Jinx but not what I'm after as that would apply to tens of thousands of writers. There is something that links these 10 writers and these 10 alone. By the way Tony has the right answer but is sportingly letting this round play on for a few days if needed.

When checking this I found to my surprise that Hemmingway and Linklater were both born in 1899 I thought they were earlier than that as both were very well known by the 1920's.
