Lots of positive MOT vibes for Jose!

Good luck Jose. And chilli.

Thank you everyone! :D I know if it fails on anything it can be fixed - it's just finding the time to get it fixed.....and as it's usually raining and I don't have a garage, that means me lying under the van getting cold n wet

The joys of the older vehicle......but I wouldn't swap him :D

I do feel that MOT testers are becoming more like many modern mechanics though - just fitters rather than someone who actually understanding the workings of the car.

My van has a steering box rather than rack and pinion. A box always has slightly more play (even when new) due to the design, but half the time I have to explain this to the MOT man and show him it is adjusted correctly and is not excessively worn.

I once had to have an argument with the MOT man about a VW Beetle - he tried to fail it on a 1cm circle of rust that he said was near to something that was load bearing for the suspension. It took the Haynes manual and about 15 minutes to explain that I could onbolt the body from the car and then still drive the chassis with the suspension working and intact, so how could the area with the small rust bubble on the bodywork be load bearing

I'm not against the MOT - I would rather know if my car had unsafe brakes etc than carry on driving, but it's the silly things that it can fail on now, like the dash light illuminating the speedo not being bright enough.......I mean really???? If I ever manage to get a speeding ticket in my van I'm gonna frame it!

It does seem sometimes like the Government are trying to force older cars off the road.

I don't think the government would understand what you mean by that. Most of them have never driven their own car.

Good luck Jose! :D
What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!

I thought the topic was either about daylight savings time or the new upcoming season of Game of Thrones....

We have a pass! :D :D :D
No advisories either - which I think is pretty good for a 38 yr old vehicle.

The only slight downer was I got the bloke to do service this year - just to check I hadn't been doing anything wrong over the last 4 yrs. He reckoned he couldn't get the oil cap on the engine so bent the lugs so it would fit - but all you normally have to do is talk to Jose nicely and he lets the cap fit! ;) :ugeek:  . Got home after 8pm last night from the 25 mile trip to pick it up to find the oil cap had rattled off cos it was too loose  . Luckily there wasn't too much oil on the engine. So then spent another half hour adjusting the cap so it would fit and stay tight. Ho Hum. Still I have another year's MOT which means another years camper adventures :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Thank you everyone for you support during this very stressful time. Without you to turn to my alcohol intake would have been a lot higher

Sounds like you got it done just in time before the new, updated MOT test that starts today. :)

And it's really all down to you and how well you've looked after Jose. Congrats to you both!
