Some one set us up the spam bomb.

The one thing i like about Yahoo is that they have a spam filter so all that stuff goes into a separate folder. and all i have to do is click empty spam folder and thats it. its not perfect though, so i do give a glance at the folder contents before clicking. occasionally something valid will get dropped in there by mistake. but all in all worth it.

the ones that i see that i do find annoying are the ones that use names of people i know. not because i'm fooled but because its kind of disgusting that they would use, say, my mother's name, to try and scam me.

I got one a little while back from Nat West saying my account would be frozen unless I clicked on the link to provide my account details. This would have been very difficult since I don't have an account with Nat West.

I've got a virus infecting IE - if I try to access the Paypal site with IE a little disabling pop up window pops up asking me to confirm my log in/bank details. It doesn't affect Firefox at all.

Here's a YouTube video that is derived from that that popularised the saying. Warning: some flashing graphics, so be careful.

Ushio: What sort of game-

Yami: You lose!

I had this email this morning claiming to be from the Inland Revenue:

a tax refund under section 501(c) (3) of the
Internal Revenue Code. Tax refund value is £189.60.
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 6-9 days
in order to IWP the data received.
If u don't receive your refund within 9 business
days from the original mailing date shown,
you can start a refund trace online.

If you distribute funds to other organization, your records must show wether
they are exempt under section 497 (c) (15). In cases where the recipient org.
is not exempt under section 497 (c) (15), you must have evidence the funds will
be used for section 497 (c) (15) purposes.

If you distribute fund to individuals, you should keep case histories showing
the recipient's name and address; the purpose of the award; the maner of

Why it's a scam: Lots of reasons - including the fact that HM Customs don't send emails like this. But the killer for me was this line: "If u don't receive your refund".

Hilarious!

Here's one I got yesterday.

Dear employer,

The US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) informs you, that mistakes were made in your Form 1041 (U.S Income Tax Return for Estates and Trusts, is used by estates and trusts for tax returns).
You can see correct forms here:
