It's coming up to that time when I have to submit three pics on Tuesday for the final projected image merit competition of the season. As usual, I cannot decide which three to enter so any input would be gratefully received, together with some decent titles.

I'm not sure that last one works for me. I think that making it monochrome has taken too much out of it and made it a little bland.

And I'm not generally one for photos with people in, but the camera club one works quite well as the guys in the foreground take the eye to the sunset.

The blue tit is a lovely shot as is the windmill.

The bird and the windmill are my top two picks. It was hard choosing between the rest for a third, but I'll go with The Lonely Tree.

The windmill looks like it's made out of polished aluminiun, good effect.

Like the birdie (how about Belligerent Blue - he looks pretty bolshie ) and the windmill best. Of the other three there's something about the moon shot but there's not enough contrasting greys to give it a bit of a sheen effect so I'd go with the sunset overall.

Thanks all for your feedback, which was invaluable in making up my mind.

In the end I went for "Standing Proud", "Photographers at Work" and "A Hand Held Record of a Photographers Lunacy". I would have gone with "Looking for Lunch" but on closer inspection at full screen resolution a fair bit of 'noise' was evident from slightly over cropping the image. This would have been magnified too much when projected onto the big screen so I left it out.

Taking Jan's comments on board, I did go back to the moon and played about a bit with the contrasts and I'm fairly pleased with the end result. Whether the judge on Tuesday is, is another matter.

I know it probably made no difference that I did not make a selection, but I could not make a definitive choice.

I just got back from the camera club and received the best results that I've had all season. I scored 19 out of twenty for both the moon and the 'photographers at work', and a massive 20 (full marks and my first in the seniors) for 'Standing Proud' (what I'm doing at the moment).

The judge didn't even make any comment other than briefly look at the pic when it came up before announcing 20. When it came to judging between it and the other three twenties in my group he just said it couldn't be improved on and awarded it first place! (Unfortunately, I didn't win overall on the evening. That award went to my friend's excellent pic from the intermediate group.)
