The Tiffany Mirror by Bernard Pearson

Postby The Mad Collector » Fri Feb 22, 2013 1:25 pm

One of the last large sculpted items made by Bernard before the arthritis in his hands was too bad to sensibly do anything very few of these were made and even fewer painted (they were normally in an overall bronze finish) It's big 62cm tall, 42cm wide and 8cm deep (24 inches x 16½ inches x 3 inches in real measurements) including the relief work and being a solid casting around the mirror is extremely heavy. Like the Iconograph it's something that has been packed away for about 10 years and has only recently found a place to hang, I really did need to get it displayed.

Wow, what a lovely thing to have.

Absolutely gorgeous.

Are you going to be opening a Discworld Gallery Annex to Bears on the Square, Mad, or is this just for your inner sanctum and the lucky few? :shifty:

I had never seen one painted before, looks a lot better than the plains ones I've always seen.

As you are one of the few who have seen most of the collection Jan, you know just how much there is and it's just going to be the people who get invited to have a look round. It's better displayed now though so it's worth another look :D

WWD - I think only two or three were ever painted, it cost a lot in the ordinary finish so not many were ever made/sold even like that and to have it painted was by special order which doubled the price.

Just how many more treasures have you got packed away Mad? You might need to consider moving to a stately home in order to display them all in the manner they deserve! :D

I think I have most of the collection on display and photographed now. I might start a regular posting of collectable item of the month if anyone would be interested

I am very undecided about your mirror. I don't like the colouring.
I far prefer the uncoloured version, like what I have.

Each to their own Steeljam, I chose the painted version as i didn't like the boring single colour version but I can see how some people would want that style as it is quite dramatic
