I love all the people that have gone around correcting anyone that called this a meteor, not a meteorite since it hit the ground. They come off sounding like shady insurance reps.

Man: No, your policy says that if a meteor destroys my home I am covered, I demand the payment you owe me.

Insurance rep: Eyup, it does, but since it actually hit your house it's technically a "MeteorITE". so you ain't covered.

Yesterday I was watched the movie, 'Thirteen Days', about the Cuban Missile Crisis, and that thought crossed my mind as well.

From the information I got, the one passing us and this one are not related. The thing that hit Russia came from another direction and was much faster (30km/s). So it seems to have been a coincidence.
