Hi! My username is Aquamarine, and I hail from the West Midlands, UK. Discworld is, to me, one of the best things ever to happen in print, and I'm happy to join the forum here dedicated to Pratchett's works.

Here are one or two things about moi:

I got into Discworld about five years ago, when I first read The Colour of Magic and then, oddly, Thud! After that, I think I'd covered most of the intervening books by the end of 2008, and since then Pratchett's books have had a whole shelf dedicated to them on my wall. This is coming from someone who has a pretty big bookcase that's already overflowing.

Apart from Pratchett's works, I'm also a big fan of Douglas Adams, P.G.Wodehouse, John Steinbeck, and Olaf Stapledon, and have quite a few favourites among classic works like those of Joseph Conrad, Lewis Carroll, the Bronte sisters, and Charles Dickens. On TV and film, I really like David Attenborough's nature documentaries, the Marx brothers films, Aliens, most of the Pixar films, and TV series like Band of Brothers, Futurama, and Porridge, to name but a few.

My other interests are in science - especially biology - classic books, comedy fantasy, writing, reading, and just plain ol' learning in general. In my spare time, I like to walk in the parks around my neighbourhood, go to the local gym, and occasionally go visit relatives for lunch.

Internet-wise, I am a chaotic poster, sometimes responding immediately, sometimes vanishing for days at a time. If I don't reply to anything tout suite, don't worry - the odds are I've stopped Internet surfing for a few days so that I can focus on something else. I also have a tendency to make long posts, but I try to cut down on that, and I don't mind if you give me a nudge whenever I start doing it too much.

My policy online is to keep personal information to a minimum for security reasons. While I'm on here, I'm simply another Pratchett fan, and that's all I think anyone really needs to know.

All in all, I came on this site mostly to find like-minded fans of Discworld. I don't meet many in my circle of friends and family who have time or inclination to read, and much as I don't want to proselytize to them, I think it's a shame I can't share my enthusiasm for the series with them. As far as I'm concerned, they're really missing out.

My favourite "series" within the Discworld canon is the Watch series, though The Truth (a standalone) and the Death subseries come a close second. I think it's because the combination of police procedural and characterization just work so well, and of all the books, Night Watch is the one that had the biggest impact for its drama and grittiness - while still being incredibly hilarious, of course!
