Dr. Sheldon Cooper the pedantic theoretical physicist character from the TV show is famous for his unique take on humour, usually following his jokes with a gleeful cry of ‘Bazinga!’ and it’s this phrase that has now been immortalised. A team of Brazilian biologists discovered the orchid-bee and named it Euglossa bazinga. According to Dr. André Nemésio, a biology professor at the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia in Brazil, this was intended to ‘honour actor Jim Parsons and his brilliant interpretation of Sheldon Cooper’.
Steve Molaro, the executive producer of the Big Bang Theory, was incredibly flattered and was sure Dr. Cooper would be too as ‘after ‘Mothra’ and griffins, bees are his third-favorite flying creatures’.
