Took the girls to the salon yesterday to get their hair trimmed. Vivian spent the time waiting trying to talk me into letting her get her hair dyed. She's 8. She picked out a picture of a style with red hair and lots of big, loopy curls. It took the stylist a while to explain that there was no way to cut hair to make it curly. We did agree that it was ok to use the curling iron to style her hair. She loved it! She was so pleased with her curls that she had me take pictures of her in different outfits, with a tiara, and from different angles. Of course, now she's going to try to talk me into curling her hair in the mornings before school. Not looking forward to that.

Last week I had a clear out of some old books and because I knew the cleaner at work would enjoy reading them I gave them to her and today she gave me a big box of chocolates to say thank you

Susanne, I went through a phase like Vivi wanting curly hair. My mum used to put my hair in rags at night (don't ask me what she did) and it was all knobbly. After a week of trying to sleep like that, I decided curly hair was too much like hard work - forget suffering to be beautiful

The only thing I could think of for Vivian's hair is braiding it before bed, but that doesn't make it curly, just wavy. She hasn't brought it up again, so maybe we're in the clear. However, they don't start back to school until Monday, so we'll see. I told her if she wanted her hair curled for school, I would only do it sometimes and I'd have to wake her up early for it. She said, "I'm fine with that." Seriously, she went full out Diva on me.

Smiling today because I'm feeling awfully pleased with the work I got done yesterday. Organized the girls' entire room, including the closet and did the same with our closet. Everyone gets a little nervous when I'm in this mode because I start getting rid of stuff.

As much as it used to make me nervous when my mum was in that kind of mood, I really wish she'd come over now and clean my closets out.

I was chuckling while reading The Hobbit today as the death of a certain dragon in that book reminded me very much of a certain scene in Guards! Guards!
