One of my nephews also has 2 middle names, but,confusingly, his given name is his last middle name. He's going to have a lot of fun explaining this when he's older

Cheery,my aunt's new dog is named Emma and I used to have a neighbour who worked in an animal clinic...and she said there were lots of dogs called Emma...I hadn't realized that before,as I didn't know any dogs named Emma at that point either.

Then there was this couple at the market..I called Emma and two elder ladies turned round and started basically to tell me off for being so dense as to give my daughter such a name..They actually said:"Emma?Um Gottes Willen,wer ist denn so blöd und nennt sein Kind Emma!Was für ein gräßlicher Name!"

Then another couple in a zoo asked me if I could answer for my child to be called 'Aunty Emma' at school.
And so on and so forth.

But Then,I've also been publicly told off by various people for speaking English with my kids.Utter strangers turn to my kids and say:"You poor child,can you speak German at all?"

Ah,I miss England,I do.

I love Emma as a name and its very common here. Never actually heard of a dog called Emma.

Broc... My daughter learnt German in High School and took out prizes etc. She was approached by the Duetche Bank and offered a University scholarship with a gaunteed job at the end of it. They actually run universities here but you have to do a degree in German Language to get the scholarship. German/English translators are very much in demand world wide and paid alot of money. (She was actually also offered a scholarship in French!) I have a friend who lives in Germany doing just that. He flies all over the world explaining and translating German mining machinery and engineering manuals. When he isnt doing that he translates books from German to English and French.

I remember when I worked in mining I worked with one of the most acclaimed German engineers on the planet. It took me a solid three days typing up his reports as he dictated them to me.... THEN he said... I hear you learnt German in school... Now we shall do the German translation of the report ... a week later... he was wonderful... one of the nicest men I ever met in my life. And after a solid week of nothing but German I was dreaming in that language.

Your young girls will benefit from speaking fluently in two languages. Dont take it for granted.

My father made our names phonetically.... he loved language.

He told me once that chosing a girls name was important. Because she may choose to take her husbands name and it had to be a name that would roll off the tongue with any surname.... hence why I myself ended my girls names with a vowel... "eeee" so the tongue is ready to proceed to the surname.... or a consonant that ended with the tongue just behind the front teeth. "nnnn"

Sounds queer right? It works. I know.. it sounds really queer and crazy.

I had a girlfriend who's name was Amanda. She married a man called Reene.
