One of my colleagues in South Africa was named Mark Hunt and one of the girls had to call out his name in the staff room when there was a phone call for him. This received a similar reaction to that scene in 'Porkies' because of her accent. It was made even better because she had never seen the film.

There are various Saxon Kings which sound like Discworld names (possibly Lancre Kings?): Eadred, Eadwig, Edgar the Peaceful, Sweyn Forkbeard, Eadmund Ironside and Harald Harefoot.

It's not incredibly unique, but I have a friend whose last name is "Order" and has said that if ever he has a son, he shall name him Lawrence.

I generated a few character names by working on the same lines that Mervyn Peake thought along in "Ghormenghast" - characters with names like "Barquentine", "Steerpike", "Prunesquallor", et c. I'm sure this has leaked into Discworld somewhere along the line, and the principles are easy enough: putting together ideas and concepts not normally linked, or using slightly archaic older English nouns and attaching them to people.

Author Peter Tinniswood, now deceased, used a gazeteer of placenames in the North of England and used these for character names: indeed a place like Accrington Stanley deserves to be a Discworld name. "Reddish Bottoms" or "Gooseaargh" and many other also have a Discworld tinge to them!
