Pregnant women have been known to get a craving to eat coal - at least when coal was a popular household fuel. I don't know what they crave now though.

In my experience, its been strawberry liquorice laces but only at 2am or cheese stuffed pizza crusts.

It's called pica . Lots of women will eat the walls. There is actually huge open international market for the pica market. Tons of sterilized charcoal and also clay is sent around the world everyday. Chalk is often eaten. My doctor said his wife practically ate his house whenever she was pregnant. I had it. I tried coconut.. hard apples.. nothing worked except charcoal. The minute the baby was born it went away. I got really worried when it didn't go away the second time. I did a huge amount of research. Some specialists say a very low iron count triggers it... and yes the minute I had an iron infusion stopped. Couldn't imagine it now.

Pica? Isn't that what a certain electric mouse Pokemon says all the time?

Actually, I got those because they were the most convenient to get: the only places I can get them in person are at a chain of university bookshops, and in fact, I got there on their last day of business before Christmas and New Year's. They had a stomach ache one, but I declined. Another, slightly less accessible store had E. Coli and Herpes.

My mum loves them, though. And I think that, if I find others in future, I might give them to my brother's kid. Well, once I have one first, anyway. I might make myself a collection.

They were pretty damn cheap too, only $10 (Aust) each.
