I want all my books to be pristine, I'm quite obsessive when it comes to looking after my books but I also don't mind too much if they do get a bit tattered (I will of course try my best not to have them that way). The first 7 books I have (COM - P) for example have spines that are falling off and the covers are bent but the insides are still readable and thats all that matters in the long run
