@Chris: proper stollen (like the traditional Dresdner stollen, that they had in the film) doesn't contain marzipan. Only marzipan stollen should contain marzipan and it should be easy to avoid it, because it says marzipan on the package.

@Del: well, it was Aldi stollen, what did you expect? Probably very dry and consisted mostly of candied orange and lemon peel. There really are HUGE differences in quality between e.g. my mum's stollen and the cheap stuff you can get at discount stores.

I quite like Stollen with marzipan. I don't like it much without. However, prefer other things for supplying calories or rather kJ.

I may not have been able to eat the Stollen but I will gladly eat my words cheery...

I'm always the one saying to people... Noooo squid is delicious. The stuff you tried was badly cooked!

And noone has ever made a Christmas pudding like my mum's... and I don't even usually like pudding.

I do usually try though... I ate ravioli in at least half a dozen counties when I was in Europe... everyone ELSE seemed to love it.. and when I finally got to Italy I was given it FREE by four or five restaurants in different parts of the country. They were convinced I would love theirs. I still don't like ravioli.

I didnt use to like it as a kid but quite like it now,even the Aldi one.
I agree though,it needs to be eaten with coffee.I ESPECIALLY like the marzipan filled ones.
