I remember when Take Five was released as a single in 1959. Though I was never a fan of Jazz, I did like that tune.

RIP Dave Brubeck. And thanks for your contributions to jazz and music. For any of you who may not be familiar with all the strength of his work, this winner of the Kennedy Center Honors & numerous other awards has a 3 pageobituary in the New York Times.

Sad,sad news indeed!
Here's the version i currently have in my youtube playlist and which gets played quite regularly normally and probably somewhat more frequently in the coming days(as right now for instance):
At least this song and all of it's countless covers and variations has pretty well assured Dave Brubeck a fair degree of well deserved immortality.

What a loss..... but then... what a blessing to have had his genius in our lives in our heads.
Good one for posting that info SW .. though I was aware of his incredible career and honours not a lot were. It says volumes about time that he WAS so well recognised in his lifetime.
I am sure that a huge percentage of people came to appreciate all kinds of jazz because of him.
And his legend will live on.... so many stations and music shows playing his music in tribute this week that even more converts will be introduced this incredible volume of work.
I was watching a series of interviews with some Australian jazz musicians and composers onlynanfew weeks ago who spoke extensively about him.
RIP Dave.

What a loss! I'm not a fan of contemporary jazz, but his style was the best. I don't know if it had a label, I think of it as "coffeehouse jazz". Several of my favorites are permanently on my MP3er. Blue Rondo a la Turk, Kathy's Waltz, Maori Blues and Take Five to name a few.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.
