I'm not a complete Bah Humbug but i do have trouble getting into the christmas spirit. I've worked as a delivery driver for most of the last 15 years and november and december has always been my busiest time. I usually work right up to christmas eve so i'm worn out over the christmas holiday.

I worked in a hospital for 12 years, where winter is always busy, christmas eve is never a holiday, and I worked every other christmas day. But I still looked forward to christmas

Were you working alongside other people though Dotsie. I,m on my own in a van, driving all day. I've also worked as a kitchen porter in a hotel in Oundle where i worked on Christmas day itself. Being with other people makes a difference.

No, christmas day was lone working and classed as 'on call', but as we still had to process routine samples it was the worst shift I've ever had to work. The only blessing was that we would hand over, rather than working 24 hours (sunday was 24 hours, which was knackering). I've also worked in a pub on christmas day, busy but fun.

It can work in the opposite chuckie .

My job is to promote. Christmas is the busiest time as is valentine day as I work mainly with jewellery companies. It's my job to convince people to buy buy buy... and if they can't afford it now they can go into debt!!!! Though I don't say it like that... I am not a "consumer" type person and breaks my heart to see people spending more than they have when they can't afford it... then there are the people who buy with a dark heart.. it's not about the gift... its about the person knowing they spent a lot of money on them... or the ones who are buying for people they hate...

But then you get an occasional one who you can really help find the perfect piece.

But on the whole.. Christmas gift shopping sends most people over the edge... so I am on my Mic in the midst of huge crowds.. and I have to smile smile smile smile....


The worst thing for me is that when I am not working the last place I want to be is in a shopping mall shopping... so I really have to push myself to GO Christmas shopping at all. Still haven't done any.

But I still llove Christmas .

I used to work nightshifts in a teenager shelter place and Christmas were the best shifts, since the place was a bit quiter and the kids who were there were in a more "cuddly" mood than usual.

One of my favourite stories of that time happened one Christmas morning when I was sitting in the tram on my way home from work. (background info: There's a famous Christmas market in my town, that ends on Christmas Eve, so this was the first post market morning.)
It was a brilliant morning, there had been snow during the night, so everything was white and picture postcardy, not many people around at 8 o'clock and I was already in a very peaceful mood. The tram line goes past the castle, and I immensely enjoyed the view.
Suddenly I heard the voice of the driver over the speakers (in a very thick local dialect)' "Isn't our town beautiful - once the tourists are gone?"
It made me and the 3 or 4 other people on the tram chuckle all the way home.
