The year in pictures (2012)

I took a load of pictures of the church (St Teilos) last time I was at St Fagan's.

Its a gorgeous church Penners.

The shame of it is that it will be left to rot. Sad when that happens to something that oozes such gorgeous architecture.

we had a derelict church just like that just down on the road from us on the marsh and some bugger robbed it and put it in the welsh heritage museum in st fagans in cardiff

I mentioned that I went out last week with a couple of friends from the camera club. It really was a terrible day for photography (grey, lots of cloud cover, and rainy) but I did manage to get a few reasonable shots;

The HDR experiment didn't go too well but this was one of the better attempts;


This ruined church is tucked away a couple of miles down a wooded single track country lane, in the middle of nowhere. It also lies somewhat below road level so it is obscured by the tree tops as you pass. If you didn't know it was there it would be extremely easy to miss it altogether

I just wanted to post this beautiful church again. How could the authorities ignore it, when it could easily be a tourist attraction?

I went out with a few friends from the camera club and spent most of the day at Selsey and Wittering taking photos. I'm still sorting the pics (which I will post later) but I did try a few more HDR attempts;

These three were taken at Hunston, near the place where Constable painted the river and Chichester Cathedral.






And these two were my first attempts at 'focus stacking' whereby you take a series of photos of the same subject but using different focal lengths on the camera and then combine the pictures so there is a sharp focus from foreground all the way to the horizon. (at least in theory, that is . )

Penners, you never fail to amaze!
The green in the first of the set of pictures looks like the green was enhanced a bit: true or false?

Sort of true. The method is called "HDR" and involves blending several photos taken at differing exposure levels and then blending them together to improve the contrasts and colour tones. I'm still experimenting to try and get the right 'mix' which isn't aided by each subject being different.
