Good gawd.

My mum's in Chideock, Watchman. Luckily she's on the hill, but last time they had torrential rain, her dear friends down in the village had water pouring into their kitchen via the ceiling and the back door. So much for thatched roofs being waterproof!!

you cant see it for water but the twin track main line to London goes off to the right, the line to the left to North Devon!

I have always wondered how people who live in basement flats get on in heavy rains or floods.

A number of roads are closed around Umberleigh, Topsham and Beer.

been there got drunk there a chef i was in the navy with was from beer so a few of us went up for a weekend when i was based in yeovil

The village of Beer is situated on the 95-mile long Jurassic Coast, England's first natural World Heritage Site and its picturesque cliffs, including Beer Head, form part of the South West Coast Path.

Beer has a steep pebble beach. This makes walking on the beach difficult.

Bacteria taken from cliffs at Beer on the South Coast were launched to the International Space Station in 2008. The Beer microbes were placed on the European Space Agency's (Esa) Technology Exposure Facility and were sent up still sitting on, and in, small chunks of cliff rock from the Jurassic Coast. After 553-days they found that many were still alive. The survivors are now reproducing in a laboratory. This was part of an experiment to study the survival of microbes (which naturally live on the stone) in extreme conditions.[1] A new species of cyanobacteria was isolated at the Open University that could be used in future space settlements on the moon and Mars to produce oxygen and break down rocks.

Which goes to prove.... you CAN survive on beer!

This was Ironbridge this morning, I live just up the hill from the bend in the road. The river is normally 15 feet below the road level and it is still rising today. It would have peaked midday tomorrow if we had no more rain but it started raining heavily again here 8 hours ago and is showing no signs of slowing. I think we are going to be cut off again and the houses and shops in the picture are going to be in real trouble
