A mate of his rang him to say he'd just been on a train up to London from the West Country, and the guard announced over the tannoy:
"Welcome to this First Great Western service to London Paddington. Life Jackets should be worn at all times, and inflated when leaving the train".
Sharlene and I were flying from Tucson, Arizona to Albuquerque, New Mexico once and they gave the whole spiel about life jackets and how the slides could double as rafts if we crashed into water. All this despite the fact that you are pretty much flying over desert or mountains all the way and there are no large bodies of water. The stewardess at least had the decency to look embarrassed by the whole thing.
