Bonnie pops in for a quick "hello" while taking a break from some preliminary packing. This coming Friday she and MrE will be able to pick up the keys for their new apartment and hopefully drop off some boxes. Currently she cannot navigate her living room very well as MrE has to sort through some of the stuff they seem to have acquired over the last several years. She's not sure where it all came from. Ah well, she trudges off to find another packing box.

Aunty wishes Bonnie all the very best with the move. Aunty needs to go and have a little lie down after just thinking about having to pack and move house!

Cillicamper does not envy Bonnie and her apartment packing and wishes her good luck for the move.

Chilli is going to try and have a lazy Sunday. However Chilli is sure that at some point he will find some DIY to do or have to help with some homework or something. lazt Sundays never seem to turn out that lazy

As Chillicamper thought - the idea for a lazy Sunday didn't work out. Chilli has washed and cleaned out the camper, cut back the climber over the arch , trimmed the conifer in the front garden, cleaned the porch gutter and done minor repairs to the porch roof, pruned the apple tree and helped D with his homework. Chilli now thinks its time for a cuppa.

Chilli with then have another attempt at a quiet Sunday afternoon.

Docandie felt a bit peckish this afternoon so decided to bake an apple cake.

The recipe for Teddie's Apple Cake showed up in the email a few days ago and Docandie posted the recipe on Facebook but today thought it was a perfect time to give it a try.
The recipe is quite simple, if anyone is interested, it is HERE.

This cake takes longer to bake than many cakes because of the WET ingredients (apples). Mine took even longer because Docandie did not use a tube pan. So it is important to TEST to see if the cake is done in the center. This one took 2 hours at 350° F. And Docandie tested it with a probe thermometer to make sure it read 200° F. in the center. A tube pan or a shallower, wider pan will of course bake more rapidly.

Docandie should add that she has become lazy in recent years and has converted to using the DISPOSABLE paper baking moulds that come in so many different sizes and shapes and make it much easier to give such cakes as gifts without agonizing if one is to ever see a favorite baking pan again. This counts as a "word to the wise" as wisdom learned by experience is being passed on...

Hmmmm . . . that looks so good, Docandie! It reminds Tony of the Apple Bread that Sharlene and Tony like so much when Tony is in Arizona. It's particularly decicious with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. :D Apple Annie's, where it is made, is in Wilcox, Arizona.

Shadow thinks the cake Docandie baked looks very tasty indeed. :) Shadow thinks she will have to try bake this some time and is suddenly aware that she is now hungry.

Docandie really doesn't know if ice cream would go well with this cake. It is more of a "tea cake" and is perfect with a malty Assam.
It also goes good with coffee.

Docandie is definitely going to make this cake again and again. It is easy and there are so many possibilities to "tweak" it a bit with different fruits - Docandie dries a lot of fruits so has a sufficient supply on hand at all times for culinary experiments.

Bonnie peeks in and sees that Docandie has made something to make her drool all over the keyboard - again! ;) Bonnie thanks all for the good wishes and is getting uber excited about starting the moving process. Unfortunately the weather gods are bent on seeing that there is plenty of rain scheduled for the weekend. She is thinking of rounding up some Hopi tribe members and making them dance the Rain Dance backward. ;)

Chillicamper hopes tht the rain stays away for Bonnie's move. Chilli is wishing he had a lovely apple cake to eat. That looks delish MMmmmmmm.

Chillicamper has been making less edible things such as this chopping/cheese board with a Yggdrasil/Tree of life type of image burnt on to it.

Chilli wishes he could make a living doing this rather than sitting in an office all day

Jules has bookmarked Docandie's recipe link for the weekend. Nomnomnom! She'll have to replace the eggs, and wonders if her cake will look as delicious.

Jules is usually not a big fan of wood burning (probably because she likes colourful things), but she LOVES that tree! She's very impressed by Chillicamper's work/fun.

She shudders at the idea of having to pack all her stuff, but she loves unpacking in a new house.

At the moment the wee (and not so wee) birdies are doing their best to distract Jules from her work. There's the usual finches, tits, sparrows and doves playing silly buggers outside her window. A couple of minutes ago there was also a woodpecker eating from the feeder that is hanging about a metre away from the conservatory window. Unfortunately Jules was too slow to take a picture...
