I have to admit, I consider opera to be highly overrated. Okay, I thought that for a long time, but last year, I saw part of an opera with English subtitles, and I thought, "Oh dear sweet non-existent God, Terry Pratchett was right about opera when he wrote Maskerade!"

Seriously, it's drama blown out of proportion with singing. No wonder they call soap operas soap operas. Because take away the singing and music, and what do you have from both? Much ado about nothing, really.

Ushio: What does that do-
Yami: You lose!
Ushio: *falls* UAHHHHHHHHH!

Usually I enjoy the music and don't think about the lyrics. This is why I don't feel any urge to visit an opera house. I like operatic singing in general, which is why I like bands like Therion and to a lesser extent Nightwish (and some others). :D

Oh I'm rarely interested in what's going on or being sung - it's the sound of the voice as an instrument combined with the orchestra. I actually don't much like opera sung in English because I find listening to the words a distraction from the sound of the voice. :)

I love classical music but I don't listen to alot of Opera either. I do have Carmina Burana on cd though & I think some of it is so breathtakingly beautiful it lifts my spirit when I listen to it.

Great music all. Keep it coming.

Btw ChristianBecker, a three horse drawn chariot at a live music show? How wonderful! Germans know how to have a good time.
