I have just been watching and listening to the first 2 hours of the PBS Ken Burns Special - The Dust Bowl, and this ended with one of Woodie Guthrie's first songs--written on Black Sunday (1934) when they thought the world was coming to an end-- and were saying, and he made a song, "So Long, It's Been Good ta Know Ya!" I grew up in Liberal, Kansas which was right in the center (I learned tonight, of the worst part of the Dust Bowl. Liberal--a good place to be FROM.

Swreader, I saw part of "Dust Bowl" too. Did you notice the piano soundtrack? That is Jacqueline Schwabb, a friend of mine in the Boston area who was recently in my town for a weekend of English Country Dancing. She played in the band Bare Necessities and called the dances. She also did the soundtrack for Burns' Civil War miniseries. I want to see all of "Dust Bowl" if only to hear her playing.

Dust Bowl is definitely one we'll get on DVD when it comes out. I really enjoyed the Civil War series when I was over there.

If you like the Carmina Burana, have a listen to Corvus Corax' interpretation (Cantus Buranus). They're a German medieval band and use lots of old instruments. Very nice.

That's just the O Fortuna bit - if you haven't already, you should listen to the whole thing. It's great!

When I was on Catster (Facebook for cats) I used O Fortuna as the music you got when you opened my cat's page. The subtle pun was "Oh for tuna".
