Stay safe and dry to all of you in the Eastern 1/3rd of the country--this storm (according to my cousin in Virginia) is 1000 miles across. And that's before it joins with the other two storm systems The news stories yesterday were calling it (groan) a Frankenstorm! Makes me feel almost guilty about our sunny warm weather in Arizona. Good luck to all affected.

We're just starting to get wind here. We will get rain tomorrow. The rain and wind will last for a few days. I think it's going to be worse for New Brunswick (North of us).

Sitting here @18:00 EST. Still have power for the moment. Had to ride about 30 miles to go to a board meeting this afternoo, and it was not easy--highways are gigantic puddles, near zero visibility. Was up at 5:00 this morning to clean another batch of leaves from the gutters. Right now the winds are peaking around 50 MPG, according to the wind guage. Huge branches are all over the yard; at least 150,000 are without power here in MA. We're certainly to be next...oh well, we have ice and flashlights and more candles than the Vatican.

More than 200 patients were evacuated from New York University's Tisch Hospital after its power went out and a backup generator failed. I heard reports on the radio this morning, that doctors and nurses had to carry ICU babies down pitch black stairwells (about 9 floors), one holding the baby, whilst the other did the handheld air pump thing.

Fire has destroyed about 50 homes in the New York City borough of Queens.

America's oldest nuclear power plant, Oyster Creek in New Jersey, was put on alert due to rising water, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said.

A crew member from a replica of HMS Bounty has died and the captain is missing after the ship sank in mountainous seas off North Carolina on Monday.

I've kept up dated via the internet as to what Sandy has been doing. Dreadful weather conditions & I feel for everyone on land.

But that was such a beautiful ship & it's so sad it's gone, with crews lose of life.
